OAE Education

The Orchestra of the Age of Enlightenment (OAE) run an Education programme that reaches out to communities in places that have little or no access to live classical music.

OAE in Suffolk

Collaborating with Suffolk Music Education Hub, Orchestras Live and the Marina Theatre Trust, the OAE came to Lowestoft in the autumn 2015. They provided a series of workshops in schools and teacher training for those schools taking part.

Primary pupils learnt about Handel's Water Music, then performed on their own instruments in schools concerts at the Marina Theatre. The children played in two, exciting pieces by James Redwood - The Water Rises and Watercycle.

Secondary students from East Point Academy, Pakefield High and Ormiston Denes worked with members of the OAE and composer James Redwood to create Concerto for Lowestoft. After developing the composition in weekly school lessons, students performed the piece with the OAE on stage at the Marina Theatre, alongside over 250 KS2 players from Lowestoft primary schools.
